2025-2026 Season

This program, dedicated to music from the 20th and 21st centuries, weaves a golden thread between France and America, revealing the French influence on several composers from across the Atlantic. Each work has been carefully chosen to magnify the shimmering colors of the Notre-Dame organ.

Louis Vierne and Marcel Dupré: two illustrious names that will forever mark 20th-century organ music. Both were connected to Notre-Dame de Paris, and both musicians were intimately familiar with Aristide Cavaillé-Coll's legendary instruments: they mastered their colors, character, dynamics, poetry...

At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the “early Baroque” period, known as the famous Seicento, introduced a modernity into musical practices that marked the birth of solo singing and opera. However, the great masters did not abandon the polyphony inherited from the Renaissance: on the contrary, they embraced it and revived it with a poetic language of new intensity.

With Membra Jesu nostri, Dietrich Buxtehude delivers one of the only “cycles” in his oeuvre. It consists of seven cantatas evoking the wounds of Christ crucified, drawing on a very ancient tradition of devotion. This meditative score is undoubtedly one of the composer's masterpieces.
