The Young Ensemble corresponds to the third cycle of education with the Maîtrise. At its end, students who wish can join the Adult Choir, a professional training that gives a diploma.
The objectives of the cycle are:
- individual, vocal and solfegic work,
- collective practice (ensemble music and choir).
The group, made up of about fifteen high school students, follows approximately 8 hours of lessons every week during school hours, with a flexible timetable arrangement.
Classes take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Depending on concerts and services, the Young Ensemble is required to rehearse or perform in the evening and on weekends.
During their studies at the Maîtrise, students undergo a complete training including courses in:
- choir,
- Gregorian chant,
- vocal technique,
- musical training,
- musical culture,
- interpretation,
- ensemble music.
All repertoires are covered, from medieval music to contemporary music, both in secular music and in sacred music: solo singing, choir with equal voices, choir with mixed voices (with the Adult Choir).
The high school students present their work during auditions, cultural actions, by participating in numerous offices in Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois (pending the reopening of the Cathedral) or during concerts in Paris, France and abroad.
LESSONS SETUP
Junior high school students take classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2 p.m.
The Young Ensemble participates every week in Tuesday evening (girls) or Thursday evening (boys) Vespers at Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois (pending the reopening of the Cathedral), outside of school holidays (from 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.).
