Daniel ASENSIO
Conductor (Preparatory Choir)Daniel Asensio studied piano and composition at the Conservatory of Valladolid, Spain. Under Didier Louis, he began conducting at the Conservatoire de Gennevilliers, where he obtained his Diplôme d’Études Musicales in Choral Conducting. He simultaneously completed studies in composition at the CNSMD de Paris, where he received first prizes in Harmony, Fugue and Form, and 20th-Century Composition, earning his Master’s degree in 2022. Daniel is currently pursuing a Master’s in Choral Conducting at the Haute École de Musique de Genève. Since 2023, he has conducted the Preparatory Choir of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris.
He has taken part in numerous masterclasses with conductors such as Martina Batič, Mathieu Romano, and Rob Vermeulen, and has guest-conducted several Parisian choirs, including the Maîtrise de Saint-Christophe de Javel and the Chœur de Chambre OTrente. The vocal ensemble Magnum Mysterium has also invited him to perform as a singer, notably at the Festival Sacrée Musique.
During his studies—particularly at the CNSMD de Paris—he deepened his knowledge of repertoire and developed a growing interest in contemporary creation and the rediscovery, through research, of forgotten repertoires, especially Spanish music of the 16th and 17th centuries.
This passion led him to found the Ensemble Vocal Ligéia in 2022, with the aim of renewing the French choral landscape by promoting these rarely performed yet remarkably rich repertoires.
In addition to conducting, Daniel Asensio is also a composer, with a special focus on vocal music.
