The Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris provides complete education in the field of solo and choral singing, from initiation to professional training. The diversity of the disciplines taught as well as the repertoires approached, the pedagogical monitoring of each singer, the openness to numerous partnerships with other large institutions make it an original structure where pedagogy and production enrich each other.
It is composed of :
- the Pre-Maîtrise,
- the Preparatory Choir ,
- the Children’s Choir,
- the Young Ensemble,
- the Adult Choir.
Following the fire of Notre-Dame de Paris on April 15, 2019, the Maîtrise finds itself orphaned but continues its educational and musical activities. The liturgy is held in the Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois church and concerts are organized in different places in Paris, in the region and abroad.

At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the “early Baroque” period, known as the famous Seicento, introduced a modernity into musical practices that marked the birth of solo singing and opera. However, the great masters did not abandon the polyphony inherited from the Renaissance: on the contrary, they embraced it and revived it with a poetic language of new intensity.

With Membra Jesu nostri, Dietrich Buxtehude delivers one of the only “cycles” in his oeuvre. It consists of seven cantatas evoking the wounds of Christ crucified, drawing on a very ancient tradition of devotion. This meditative score is undoubtedly one of the composer’s masterpieces.

While the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris has always had the mission of keeping alive the cathedral’s centuries-old musical heritage, it is also committed to contributing to the creation and development of tomorrow’s repertoire.
