Adult Choir

The Adult Choir is open to singers aged 18 to 30, wishing to improve or prepare for competitions at high music schools (CNSMD, PSPBB, ….).

Vocal studies are divided into two cycles:

  • Cycle A allows young adult singers to prepare to enter pre-vocational training (cycle B). This full course must have priority over any other studies.
  • Cycle B is a professional training program leading to the Diploma of Vocal Studies of Notre-Dame de Paris (DEV), which also prepares students for the competitions of high music schools (CNSMD, PSPBB). It prepares the singers to become soloists or to integrate professional choirs. In addition, a partnership with the CRR de Paris allows us to train singers for the DEM (Degree in Music Studies) of the City of Paris.

For students who wish, the Maîtrise offers a partnership with the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne-Billancourt to obtain a DNSPM license (National Higher Professional Musician Diploma).

During their studies at the Maîtrise, students undergo a complete training including courses in:

  • vocal technique,
  • interpretation,
  • choir,
  • ensemble music,
  • Gregorian chant,
  • musical training,
  • vocal decryption,
  • theater,
  • harmony,
  • choir direction.

The formation is articulated around a double axis, solo and choral singing. All repertoires are covered, from medieval music to contemporary music, both in the field of secular music and in the one of sacred music.

The student weeks start on Wednesday and end on Sunday, Mondays and Tuesdays being the free days. However, the singers must make themselves available for offices, rehearsals or concerts outside their regular class hours.

Indeed, most of the concerts of the Sacred Music season take place on Tuesday evenings, which often involves a dress rehearsal on Monday evenings. Exceptionally, a few rehearsals can also take place on Mondays and Tuesdays during the day, as part of certain artistic collaborations with orchestras.

The regular participation of the Choir in the offices at Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois (pending the reopening of the Cathedral) is an integral part of the training. It takes the form of Sunday masses during the school period, as well as a weekly vespers service (5:45 pm).
