In the 17th century, Venice emerged as one of the most brilliant centres of European musical creation. In the basilicas, churches and institutions of the Serenissima, a new musical language developed, shaped by the rise of solo singing and the pursuit of an ever more direct expression of the text.

The encounter between two choral traditions lies at the heart of this programme, bringing together the Adolf Fredrik Choir of Stockholm and the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris. Performed by the voices of two exceptional ensembles, this evening celebrates the friendship between young singers and the power of music to create lasting bonds beyond borders.

Bringing together works by Bach and Mendelssohn, this programme reveals the fruitful dialogue between two eras in German musical history. Alongside the cantatas and choruses of the Leipzig Cantor, the motets and sacred works of his Romantic successor resound, where the rigour of Baroque writing meets a new expressive sensibility.

Centred around Antonio Lotti’s Missa pro Defunctis, this programme brings together works by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Landi, Frescobaldi, Sances and several of their contemporaries. Meditations on human existence, Marian prayers, devotional pieces and songs of praise trace a musical journey in which the shadows of mourning and earthly fragility gradually give way to hope and light.
