Thoronet Abbey, Le Thoronet (83)
In the 17th and 18th centuries, sacred music experienced a remarkable flourishing, fuelled by artistic exchanges between Italy and France. Monteverdi opened up new expressive paths that would leave a lasting mark on European composers, while Charpentier and Campra developed a musical language in which Italian influence merged with French elegance.
Bringing together motets, hymns and liturgical excerpts, this programme reveals the richness of the Baroque sacred repertoire, from the intimacy of prayer to the splendour of great celebrations. A captivating panorama of two musical traditions united by the same quest for beauty and transcendence.
