Magnificat, Castagnet

Tuesday, September 30, 2025, 8:30 PM

Estimated Run Time: 1 hour

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

The world premiere of Yves Castagnet's Magnificat, the official recording of the reopening, promises to be one of the most memorable events associated with the reopening of the Cathedral. famous masterpiece, which he admires immensely. Castagnet, organist and composer, was inspired by the timeless beauty of the text of the Canticle of Mary, which accompanies him every day in the liturgy, and by Bach's famous masterpiece, which he admires immensely.
One year after the fire, Castagnet has composed a score in which the organ plays a leading role, as poetic as it is architectural. The voices of the choir singers will unfold freely over its framework, in a natural declamation free of any excessive formal complexity. And what words could be more beautiful than those of the Virgin herself to pay tribute to the Cathedral dedicated to her?
