Mass for Notre-Dame
Weir, Britten, Holst
Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 8:30 PM
Estimated Run Time: 1 hour
Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris
While the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris has always been committed to keeping the cathedral's centuries-old musical heritage alive, it is also keen to invest in the creation and development of tomorrow's repertoire. It has therefore commissioned Judith Weir to compose a short mass for children's choir and organ. An iconic figure in contemporary music, the British composer is particularly renowned for her operas, concert pieces for singers, and concertos. In recent years, she has also greatly expanded her catalog of choral music.
From 2014 to 2024, she was Master of the King's Music, a prestigious title that has existed for 400 years. With such illustrious predecessors as Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, she was the first woman to hold the position. The collaboration between the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris and this grande dame of music promises a concert that will go down in history.
