Bach, Magnificat – Haendel, Dixit Dominus

Presentation

For this concert outside the walls, the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris and the Conservatoire de Paris offer you a most festive program bringing together two Lutheran composers born the same year but with very different backgrounds: Haendel and Bach, known and recognized for their incredible fertility and their talent for composing orchestral and vocal monuments. The famous Dixit Dominus, very Italian in style and which already foreshadows the great choral frescoes to come like the Messiah, will respond to the Magnificat, the most popular piece of vocal works, composed for the Christmas feast of 1723 by Bach, freshly arrived in Leipzig. Two works, two styles but the same abundant and brilliant energy which will once again allow a very beautiful artistic collaboration between our two establishments.
