Pergolesi, Stabat Mater
Tuesday, March 05, 2024, 8:30 PM
Saint-Eustache Church, Paris (75)
The Children Choir and the Young Ensemble will perform Pergolesi's most popular composition.
Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is without doubt the composer's most emblematic work, written shortly before his death at the age of 26. In this famous text, the sufferings of the mother witnessing her son's torture take on painful accents, magnified by the simple, unobtrusive musical writing. It lends the work a tragic dimension and a poignant, direct emotion.
Conceived for two solo parts, with strings and basso continuo, it will be performed in a version with organ and choir.
