Brahms composed his Mass for the Dead in German, based on texts from Luther's Bible. In a humanist vision, the funeral ode delivers words of hope: “Blessed are those who suffer, for they shall be comforted” begins the choir.

For the closing of this 5th and final “hors-les-murs” season, the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, conducted by Henri Chalet, will perform Brahms' German Requiem, in a transcription by Yves Castagnet for choir, organ and percussion. In his native language, Brahms composed his Mass for the Dead on texts from Luther's Bible, following the death of his mother. The tears of grief do not prevent the funeral ode from delivering words of hope: “Blessed are those who suffer, for they shall be comforted”. This humanistic and sacred vision is evident throughout the work.
