Sankta Lucia, Swedish Christmas

Sankta Lucia, Swedish Christmas

Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 8:30 PM

Estimated Run Time: 1 hour

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

Sankta Lucia (a name derived from the Latin lux, lucis, meaning light) is celebrated on December 13 in honor of Saint Lucy of Syracuse. Along with Advent, it marks the beginning of the Christmas season and festivities. Traditionally important throughout Western Christianity, it is now celebrated mainly in southern Europe and Scandinavia, particularly in Sweden.
During this concert organized in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy and now a true tradition at Notre-Dame de Paris, Lucia's candles will shine brightly in the cathedral, their soft, warm glow accompanying the voices of the Adolf Fredrik Choir of Stockholm and the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris. A majestic procession will warm the hearts of spectators in the chill of winter, transporting them to the joy of Christmas.
