Prima vox
Hildegard Von Bingen and medieval polyphonies
Tuesday, October 7, 2025, 8:30 PM
Estimated Run Time: 1 hour
Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris
This program echoes women's voices singing and praying in two renowned monasteries: Disibodenberg in the 12th century and Las Huelgas in the 13th and 14th centuries. Here, through five women's voices, fluctuating between the monody of German composer Hildegard Von Bingen and the polyphonies of the manuscript from the Spanish convent of Las Huelgas, the question of the sacred and women's devotion is raised. These works seek to resonate deep within us with an initial voice, Prima vox per quam omnes creati sumus, “the first voice through which we were created.” A cry raised to the heavens, this voice of beginnings opens up inner spaces.
