Published on Thursday 07 December 2023A milestone for Notre Dame: 1 year until cathedral reopens to public after devastating fire
Henri Chalet, the principal choir conductor, already has butterflies at the thought. On one hand, he tells himself that in the 850-plus-year history of Notre Dame, its closure is just a blip and he needs to be patient a little longer. But for a human lifetime, “five years is very long,” he said, and “unfortunately, in 850 years, it fell on us.”

During the cathedral’s rebuilding, the choir has continued to perform elsewhere, including on international tours. Published on Friday 29 September 2023The Choir of Notre-Dame Cathedral in the United States
For the first time in its history, the voices of Notre-Dame de Paris will be heard in the United States, in a series of concerts from New York to Chicago, via Cleveland, Atlanta, Dallas and Huntsville.
The adult choir of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, under the direction of Henri Chalet and with Yves Castagnet (titular of the chancel organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral) at the organ, will perform masterpieces of French music including Fauré's Requiem and Poulenc's Litanies à la Vierge Noire.
This concert series, originally scheduled for April 2020, had to be cancelled at short notice
because of Covid, which forced all borders to be closed overnight. From October 15 to 28, 2023, just over a year before the Cathedral's reopening scheduled for December 2024, the Choir of the Cathedral will finally be able to meet the Americans whose love for France and Notre-Dame de Paris was demonstrated the day after the fire by an unprecedented outpouring of generosity. This is an opportunity for the Maîtrise to thank the Americans and bring the voices of Notre-Dame to them.

Published on Thursday 09 December 2021Finding the Musical Spirit of Notre-Dame
The beloved Paris cathedral is still being restored after the devastating 2019 fire, but other churches are keeping its musical traditions alive this holiday season. However since the fire, the Maîtrise of Notre-Dame has struggled financially: the school lost one third of its 2-million-euros-a-year budget and had to fire most of its staff and musicians.
